Parents get to play too!
Presenting the Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program..
The Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program (Ski Sky Tavern) is an 8 week learn-to-ski/ride program that starts the first weekend in January each year. The objective of the program is to provide a safe and fun environment that fosters family participation and a lifelong love of recreational winter sports, at an extremely reasonable price.
For $125, children receive eight, 2 hour lessons from our PSIA/AASI trained snowsports school every weekend, and have the rest of the day to free ski or ride.
Since Sky Tavern is an all-volunteer organization, parental involvement is a necessity and key to our success. For $125 a season, adults have the opportunity to take lessons from our snowsports school each afternoon if they like, or simply free-ski with their children. Parents are asked to work a two to three hour shift each weekend, helping with the kitchen, parking, checking lifts, etc.
Our Teaching Philosophy
We believe it is important for every child to reach their full potential. What this means is that we pay close to the skill level of your child, and ensure we place them in a class that suits them best. For more information on the different levels, please refer to a description of the different Skiing and Snowboarding “ability levels”
If your child is already a rockstar on the slops, we would love for them to join us as junior ski and snowboard instructors (have to be between 14 and 17), AND, be a part of the Sky Tavern Race Team! Training includes instruction on proper skiing techniques, training on race courses and video taping and analysis. For more information on the Race Team, please refer to “Programs”
Not available to participate with your child? You can still let them enjoy the slopes!
If you are not available to join for your child for this unique experience, don’t let your schedule stop your child from participating!
Children 9 years of age and older, who do not have a participating adult, can be transported to the resort via bus. For an addition $75 (for a total season cost of $200), each child will be picked up from one of six pick-up locations, given the same 2 hour lesson, then has the rest of the day to ski or ride. They are returned to the pick-up location at approximately 4:00pm. The pick-up locations are:
- Galena High School
- Pine Middle School
- Reed High School
- Alyce Taylor Elementary School
- Alice Smith Elementary School
What is a typical day at Ski Sky Tavern like for my child?
8:30am: Arrives and gets ready to ski!
9am-11am: Lessons!
11am-12:30pm: Free-ski & Fun with Parents & Friends
12:30pm-1pm: Lunch at Ski Tavern with Meal Pass!
1-4pm: Free-ski & Fun with Parents & Friends
4pm: Head home and look forward to next week!
Can we still ski at Sky Tavern, on an “un-assigned” day?
Adult members may ski at Sky Tavern on “non-assigned” day but are expected to check-in and be willing to volunteer if the need arises. A child of the member may ski, but must attend class in the morning, even on the “non-assigned” day.
Where do we eat?
The Sky Tavern lodge has a full food service department, where breakfast and lunch can be purchased at very economical rates. Season meal passes can be purchased for $50, and will offer each participant a full lunch for each day of the season. In addition, our terrain park boasts the “Snack Shack” for those mid-afternoon munchies.
